Customer Demand for Unionized Printing Companies Still Remains Strong

About 5 percent of printing industry employers have some or all production employees represented by a labor union. The Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (GCC/IBT) is the primary union in the printing industry, with a reported active membership of 33,263. The Communications Workers of America (CWA) represents less than 1 percent of industry employees.

Minimum wage in Washington will increase to $9.47 in 2015

Washington Department of Labor & Industries proposes 1.8 percent average rise in workers’ comp rates in 2015

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is proposing an average 1.8 percent rate increase for 2015 workers’ compensation premiums, which is just under the current rate of wage inflation. The increase comes out to about one cent per hour worked.

Hawaii has amended its Temporary Disability Insurance Law to include Organ Donation

The term “disability” now includes organ donation for purposes of receiving temporary disability insurance benefits. In addition, any individual in current employment who suffers a disability resulting from an organ donation will be entitled to receive temporary disability benefits.
